Terrific Tuscany

Guidebook

Day 1 Arrival in Florence, transfer & orientation 16.00 - 18.00

Where else could we begin our Tuscan adventure but in Florence? One of the most iconic and culturally rich cities on earth. With its UNESCO World Heritage status, and unparalleled Renaissance art pedigree, there really is no other city quite like it. From David, to the Uffizi to Ponte-Vecchio and beyond, you may wish to add a couple of days on to the beginning or end or your trip to see everything there is to see, but if time is short, we are here to guide you to the very best that Florence has to offer. And if you want that perfect sunset picture and perfect memory, journey to Piazzale Michelangelo to round everything off in fine romantic style.

Day 2 Florence - Lucca 9.00 - 14.00

We join our classic 500's today and head out into the Tuscan countryside. Before we go too far, we stop at the Etruscan (Pre-Roman) settlement of Fisole, close to Florence. Not any visitors to Florence make it here but because we know all the good stuff, we do. After a stroll into the past, we continue on to Lucca. With its famed and intact oval medieval walls, Lucca has the distinction of featuring in a Top Gear episode, in addition to its grander Estruscan and Renaissance past. Lucaa is a magical place, and recognised as such by UNESCO, and a glass of something local in the central piazza, one of the most relaxing treats of any tour.

Day 3 Lucca - Siena 9.00 - 14.00

We start today so close to one of the world's greatest architectural icons, we can't let a visit to UNESCO Pisa and its leaning tower pass us by. After some classic camera poses, we proceed on to Siena via some lovely country roads. We're heading back into the heart of Tuscany and wine country. Yet another UNESCO World Heritage site, (that's 4 in 3 days in case anyone is counting) and with very good reason. Siena has a wonderful grand piazza, cathedral and historic centre that demands exploring and enjoying. A coffee and bite to eat at one of the numerous al fresco eateries isn't just desirable, it's essential.

Day 4 Siena - Cortona 11.00 - 16.00

Now in the very heart of Tuscany, we take the time to really enjoy the scenery. Travelling over some simply wonderful winding roads, we wend our way to Lake Tresimeno for a relaxing lunch stop. The fourth largest lake in Italy, and seated right in the very middle of the country. It's the perfect spot for an hour or two of down time. Once fully refreshed, we move northwards on one of the prettiest drives anywhere to the historic town of Cortona for the night. Perched on a hilltop it epitomises traditional Tuscany. You'll fall in love with Cortona and its narrow lanes, cute cafe's and chilled out charm instantly.

Day 5 Cortona - Monte Santa Maria Tiberina 11.00 - 15.00

We begin our day a little later than usual so we get to enjoy Cortona for as long as possible. Once on the road again, we head in an easterly direction. Today is all about the scenery. Our route takes us across some terrific winding roads and is our only foray out of Tuscany and into Umbria. There are plenty of options for a lunch stop in one of the many villages en route, and our mountainous drive allows us to put our 500's through their paces at full stretch. Our home for the night is Monte Santa Maria Tiberina,

more discrete than Cortona, but with just as much charm and personality on offer.

Day 6 Monte Santa Maria Tiberina - Arezzo 10.00 - 14.00

After a week of touring, we keep our final driving day very manageable. We detour northwards for a visit and lunch stop in the medieval town of Anghiari. The walled fortress and cute lanes peppered with cafe's and pizzeria's, are a great way to spend an hour or two of last minute exploring and souvenir hunting. When ready, we hop back in our chariots for the drive to Arezzo. This is our final night of touring and what a superb place we have to call home one last time. Its bars, restaurants and buzzy evening culture offers plenty of options for a final hurrah, and Arezzo showcases Tuscany brilliantly.

Day 7 Arezzo - Florence 9.00 - 11.00

After a hearty last breakfast, a short drive back to Florence for final farewells to new friends, vehicle handover and transfers to the airport.
