Day 1 Arrival in Ljubljana, transfer & orientation 16.00 - 18.00

Ljubljana and Slovenia in general is regarded as one of the prettiest undiscovered corners of Europe and our first night gives us the chance to find out. The Ljubljanica River snakes through the heart of Ljubljana and following its path is the best way to experience the vibrant promenades, the colourful architecture, and riverside cafe culture. Check out Ljubljana Castle in all its Gothic splendour, Dragon Bridge, indeed all the Ljubljanica River bridges have their own character and story, and explore the city's streets with its Baroque accents and laid back vibe. Wind down with an early evening stroll and an ice cream in the serene and beautiful Tivoli Park.

Day 2 Ljubljana - Maribor 10.00 - 14.00

Our first morning takes us to our mini chariots of Fiat and a bit of practice to make sure everyone is sitting comfortably and settled before setting off. Once outside of Ljubljana proper, our route towards Maribor shows off the Slovenian countryside wonderfully well. We’ll take a stop or maybe two along the way to stretch legs and enjoy the view as we follow the path of the River Sava before turning North. Maribor is the second city of Slovenia about a third the size of Ljubljana, but has very much its own identity, character and tone. Maribor is in short, a tremendous city to spend time walking around, eating and drinking in, and getting to know. Definitely Slovenian, distinctly Maribor.

Day 3 Maribor - Bled 10.00 - 15.00

Our drive time today is about 2 hours by normal car but as we like to take things easy, you can expect a little longer. Having spent the night in the East of Slovenia, we now make our way to the West of the country and Bled through the curiously named ‘Karawanks’ mountain range. Lake Bled is probably the postcard picture of Slovenia you’ve seen and with good reason. It is a magical place that oozes charm and serenity. Raise your voice above a whisper around Lake Bled and even the birds in the trees will furrow their brows at you. The town of Bled itself is small and attractive and famous for its vanilla and cream pastry, which is amazing with a great coffee and taken alfresco.

Day 4 Bled - Most Na Soci 12.00 - 14.00

Today is a terrific drive in and around Triglav National Park. A real drivers day, with miles of wonderful quiet winding roads, beautiful scenery to enriched the soul and the promise of another fabulous destination to while away the night in. We pass by small villages atop their mountain perches, and glacial pools and lakes, some large, some small, on our way to our overnight stop. Most na Soči (Bridge over the Soci) is one of those places that looks like photographers have used a heavy filter, but it is a natural emerald green hue from the water of the River Soci that produces the effect. Stroll along the panoramic pathways for an amazing pic and lasting memory.

Day 5 Most Na Soci - Piran 10.00 - 15.00

We are now heading South towards the Adriatic Sea and skirting the Italian border as we do so. Our route is a little off the beaten track and all the more interesting for it. Here we keep to the winding backroads as we leave Triglav National Park behind us. Slovenia has a very small stretch of coastline to its name but what it has, is cracking! We’ve picked the best of the bunch for our stay here, the coastal town of Piran. Medieval history shows in its layout and architecture. Think Dubrovnik, only smaller scale and quieter. Walk the walls of Piran, wander the old town, or catch a bite in one of its many seafood restaurants. Or you can be greedy and do it all!

Day 6 Piran - Postojna 12.00 - 15.00

After trekking around this beautiful land, by now you’ll be ready for a lie-in, so our departure time today is leisurely enough to have one last explore of Piran. As ever, we like to pick the routes most interesting and least travelled. Our exit from Piran is no exception and our drive today is through the mountainous Croatia / Slovenia border region. We aim to pick our way through the web of secondary roads that make up this part of the country and weave our way through to the town of Postojna. Our final overnight stop has an incredible cave system plus an optional trip to the nearby Predjama Castle, embedded into its mountainside home and includes dungeons and legends aplenty.

Day 7 Postojna - Ljubljana 9.00 - 11.00 (Flexible)

After a hearty last breakfast, a short drive back to Ljubljana for final farewells to new friends, vehicle handover and transfers to the airport.
